Our Next Picture Competition – Thatching in Progress
Following the success of our previous competitions, we are so pleased to launch our next Picture Competition “Thatching Work in Progress” (October 2023).
Time to showcase what is involved in thatching work, celebrating the skills and tasks involved in caring for a thatched roof. We plan for the entries to also show the diversity of properties that the thatching trade deals with, along with all aspects of the projects.
Thatching Work in Progress Pictures
Once again, we invite you to get snapping – or painting – and to send us in your fabulous thatch pictures involving thatching work in progress. This may be at any time in the process of thatching, patching, repairing or tittivating a thatched roof.
Rules are similar to previously – see below.
Competition Entry Ideas
This competition allows for plenty of variety, perhaps:
- Scaffolding ready to thatch
- Stripping the old thatch
- Applying a new thatch roof
- Applying a new ridge
- Thatching repairs
- Sorting out an apron or flashings around a chimney
- Twisting a spar
- Part thatched
- Close up detail
- Or from a distance
- From roof level or the ground or ??
The Entries
As ever we hope to showcase the pictures in a gallery, copywrited by us and credited to the entrants. There is also the possibility of using some entries in our social media etc (crediting the entrant at all times). This will further promote the thatching process in all its forms.
It is a craft, a skill, hard work in all weathers and with a multitude of roof shapes and designs a process which we want to celebrate.
The Winner
As previously, the winner will be sent a £20 gift voucher and will be announced in the next Autumn Newsletter. The Winner will also be posted on our social media, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest.

The Entries
Entries via email to claire@thatchadvicecentre.co.uk – A maximum of six pictures per entrant.
Include your name, address, postcode and contact telephone number. Information on the Thatching Work in Progress, what the picture(s) relate to, is optional. Only entries received by email (along with entrant name, address, postcode and telephone number) will be valid.
The entries must be the original work of the entrant and must not infringe the rights of any other party. The entrant must be the sole owner of copyright in all photographs entered and must have obtained permission of any people featured in the entries or their parents/guardians if children under 16 are featured. Further, entrants must not have breached any laws when taking any photographs.

More Information on this Competition
The closing date for the competition is Monday 2nd September 2024.
The Winner will be chosen by an independent judge, from all valid entries. They will be notified by email and/or phone.
Entries may be used by the Thatch Advice Centre e.g., on a gallery of entries and subject to Thatch Advice Centre © copyright, but will always be credited to the entrant – unless requested otherwise.
By entering the competition, entrants will be deemed to have agreed to be bound by these rules.
The Thatch Advice Centre reserves the right to cancel this competition or alter any of the rules at any stage, if deemed necessary in its opinion, and if circumstances arise outside of its control.
If the winner of the Thatch Advice Centre “Thatching Work in Progress Picture Competition” is unable to be contacted after reasonable attempts have been made, we reserve the right to offer the prize to another entrant.

The Winner
Winner will receive a £20 gift voucher and be chosen by an independent professional. They will be notified prior to the Newsletter which they are applauded in being sent out to our 6K plus subscribers.
