An Arris Rail is a triangular piece of wood used at the eave of a pitched thatched roof to give a ‘kick’ or upstand of around 1-2″ so the first set of bundles have a slight bend and are more securely fixed.

A one man band Thatcher with an apprentice should do half a Thatchers square per day. This is based on stripping old material thatching, ridging, wiring and tidying up, the whole job. So a 10 square job should take 20 days – weather permitting!
