Update on Tithe Barn Trust Landbeach

We have recently heard from the Tithe Barn Trust and thought it was time for an update for everyone.

Tithe Barn, Landbeach background

The Tithe Barn Trust, is a small charity and not- for profit volunteer group committed to saving and restoring the unique Tithe Barn in Landbeach, near Cambridge, for everyone to enjoy. The public have been incredibly generous and donated well over £60k, but Quantity Surveyor costings value the work needed at around £250k.

Tithe Barns are increasingly rare in the UK and this is the only remaining one in Cambridgeshire in its original condition with thatched roof, timber frame, timber granary and brick threshing floor. Experts believe the barn dates to the medieval period.

The Thatch Advice Centre have, in the past, promoted their Sponsor a Sheaf campaign.

Tithe Barn Trust update

They have recently had confirmation that the Pilgrim Trust has awarded them a grant.  This will be used as match funding for a grant from the Architectural Heritage Fund to appoint a ‘Fundraiser & Business Case developer’.

These grants will give them the much needed funds to appoint a Fundraiser to help us secure the remaining funds needed. It is their aim for the restoration to begin in 2019.
