Thatching Tools – Leggett

Also known as a bat, beetle or dresser. A Leggett is used to drive combed wheat reed and water reed into a position on the roof.

A Leggett is used to ‘dress’ a roof.

Leggetts do look a bit like a bat, and are made in a variety of styles. They are usually made from wood, but more often nowadays, aluminium leggetts are used as they are light and very strong.

Thatching Tools – Plastic Spars

Plastic Spars are moulded, U Shaped, and have a barbed inner edge. They are used only for coat work and once placed in the thatch are very hard to remove. They are usually black or white coloured.

As it is Christmas we have arranged them in the shape of a star and taken a picture to show you.

Merry Christmas
