Test it Tuesday Reminders

Why Test it Tuesday Reminders?

The Thatch Advice Centre has, for several years (since 2014), worked hard to regularly post “Test it Tuesday Reminders” on our social media.   The reason for this is simple – it’s part of our Fire Safety message for thatched property owners.

Our work, in promoting up to date fire safety advice for thatched homeowners, includes emphasising the importance of having working smoke alarms on all floors of your thatched cottage.

A carbon monoxide alarm is also a no brainer, for those who need them.

If there was a fire or CO leak – a working alarm, to alert you to a situation, can make a big difference.  It gives some peace of mind and could even save lives.  Not only that it is often an insurance requirement, which should not be overlooked.

Respond to Our Test it Tuesday Posts

When you see our “Test it Tuesday” posts, please love/like and share them – to remind your friends and followers too.  The regular posts work to jog everyone’s mind and maybe make them think:-

  • I need to test my alarms
  • I haven’t checked mine recently, maybe I should?
  • I wonder if my alarms work?
  • Mine wasn’t working – good reminder that I need to buy a new one
  • I haven’t got one, I’d better get one now.
  • My insurance could be affected if its not working.

Other Alarm Testing Campaigns

We chose to do the “Test it Tuesday” campaign, which fitted into our plan.

Others promote this important fire safety message via other similar routes.  For example:

Don’t just Test it Tuesday – replace old alarms

After 10 years of testing, cleaning and keeping it going it is advised to replace your alarm.

NB The ionisation smoke alarms are apparently now being phased out “in favour of the optical smoke alarms due to manufacturing, transportation and disposal concerns around the radioactive material that ionisation smoke sensors rely on” (Source www.safelincs.co.uk)

Help us to Help You and Others

If you have family, friends or associates who would find testing alarms difficult due to access, ability or other reason, why not help them?  Working Together is one of our mottos and testing alarms is a perfect example of how we can easily do this.

And

Why not send us some pictures to use on our Test it Tuesdays – not only is it helpful and interesting but it can help you too.

We always credit and tag as requested anyone who kindly sends in pictures.  This helps us and also helps you with a bit of free promotion for your business or organisation etc

We have recently done a using empty bottle from Xmas to reach the alarm to test!  As a lot of people are doing “Dry January” we thought it was a bit of fun too.  In the past we have used many things in our pictures including thatching tools and even getting the kids to help!

Test it Tuesday is for Everyone

Our “Test it Tuesday” posts are for everyone, not restricted to just thatched property owners.  Early warning of any fire is highly recommended.  If your home is thatched it can make an even bigger difference.   It also helps to give some peace of mind.

So,

Please don’t just read our “Test it Tuesday” posts.

Act on them by testing your alarms.

Responses and sharing of our posts helps to spread the word to friends and family on this important fire safety message.  The only good alarm is one which works!

We share other posts too #workingtogether… as well as other fire safety information on smoke alarms eg HantsFire

Help Us to Help You

It’s great to share pictures on our Test it Tuesday sent in from our friends and associates.

Why not send us a picture to use?

We love to post these pictures, crediting and tagging along the way.  If someone we know has an alarm which goes off and alerts them to a fire or CO issue then all the posts and sharing will be a job well done.
