Social Media Snapshot 1

Snapshot 1 – From our last 6 months’ Social Media Posts

We love being social.  There are so many interesting and informative things to share with our friends and followers on “All Things Thatch”.

Thatch related issues are often shared to help educate, inform and help people.  We like to engage with others who also provide interesting and useful posts, and reciprocation is always appreciated.

The Thatch Advice Centre’s social media is entirely organic.  We don’t have funds to sponsor posts so are very proud of our reach and number of real and engaged followers.  That being said, don’t forget to drop in and see us sometimes if you have not seen us, as the algorithms love to change!

Feel free to Tag us on any posts which are “thatch” related as Working Together has always been our aim.  From homeowners to thatchers, fire services to straw growers, we have a extensive following covering a wide variety of potential posts.

Loving and sharing of our posts is always appreciated and we do try to reciprocate.

See below some of our social media offerings along with their associated images for you to enjoy.

No fooling around with AI on the 1st April. A real picture of a lovely couple of thatched properties old and new!

Monday Mayhem. One of the issues raised in our recent article was concerns about thatch insurance cover and premiums. We have specialist thatch insurers. https://bit.ly/InsurersTh

Wednesday Wonder if you know where this is?  Or When it was taken?

Thatch Thursday.  All Thatcher’s are busy. If your thatch looks like its needing attention don’t leave it until last minute to get quotes.  There are waiting lists.

Friday Following on from our The Future For Thatch Article https://bit.ly/ThatchFuture One of our followers has written a great letter to their council MP.  If you would like the words as a template, happy to share.  Just email us and we will send it.

Wednesday What…  Is on your chimney pot?  This one is keeping the birds out!

Wednesday Windows.  Some great looking windows on this row of thatch, outside the UK. Anyone know where?

Wednesday Woes.  Too many thatched roof fires recently.  It’s not all solid fuel burning related.  This one was most likely sun on a mirror.  Please understand and reduce the risks. https://bit.ly/SunOnMirror

Monday Madness.  Our Thatch fire interest, knowledge and experience means that the Spring spate of thatched roof fires were sadly anticipated.  Not all fire services are up to speed on the proven causes & this can muddy the up to date advice! Solid fuel requires understanding, care and regular maintenance to reduce the risks and tick insurance requirement boxes!  Electrics and magnifying mirrors are also risks so please read our Thatch Fire Safety Leaflet. https://bit.ly/FireSafeLeaf

Thatch Thursday Thoughts.  How many of you have written to your local MP Re: The Thatch Cottage Situation?  https://bit.ly/ThatchFuture

Thatch Thursday  “Straw supply issues are making the news now which is good to see…” BBC  https://bbc.in/4nyc0Ir

Friday Flowers & Thatch.  Can’t beat the Wisteria here!  Shame we can’t share the fabulous fragrance too!

Monday Mentioning our… Hugely Important and useful Thatch Directory Associates who help our visitors with myriad of enquiries  Thank you  https://bit.ly/TDHomep

Pinch Punch 1st of the Month – As we approach summer with a lovely picture of Roses and Thatch, which go so well together, don’t you think?

Wednesday Wondering in June….  How everyone’s thatching straw is looking?  Some of our friends are reporting good looking crop so far!

Thatch Thursday.  6 1/2 acres of Squareheads Master for Sale!!  In South Staffordshire (standing crop).  Email us and we’ll put you in touch.

Thatch Thursday.  Feeling a bit concerned at recent information / advice on social media being out of date or even incorrect.  AI hasn’t learnt to thatch yet either!!

Monday Mention.  Per our recent article The Future for Thatched Properties https://bit.ly/ThatchFuture  Wondering how many Listed Straw properties have been changed to another material eg. Longstraw to Combed Wheat Reed, Longstraw to Water Reed or Combed Wheat Reed to Water Reed.  We don’t reckon they will ever go back to how they were.  Where is this all going?

Wednesday Wondering.  Do your insurers cover vermin / bird damage to your thatched roof?

Sharing for any of our chimney sweep followers who may be interested…… Our Historic & Thatch property sweeping courses are now available online. Book here – https://www.guildofmasterchimneysweeps.co.uk/…/histori…/

Monday Materials.  Here’s a close up of a thatched barge.  Who knows what thatching material this is?  We do ..

Wednesday What’s your hobby?  At Thatch HQ we keep bees and sometimes collect swarms!!  Here’s a bee swarm in a tree which we collected.

Magnificent Monday after a great weekend!  Keep the entries coming for our Thatch with Character picture Competition. Email us up to 6 pictures. Thanks to S Underwood for this characterful entry.  https://bit.ly/CharacterThatch

Our Wednesday Wondering is…….  How long are Thatcher’s waiting lists?

Thatch Thursday – Update – Unfortunately Historic England have responded to us that the Binder Technical Guide is “unlikely to be ready for publication before August”  Obviously this is too late but anyone needing help contact us as some of our Associates may well be able to assist!

A great article on thatching straw shortages.  https://bbc.in/3RgM8Fa  However, we feel the skills to apply it, especially Longstraw, are also lacking….  Per our recent article on The Future for Thatch, https://bit.ly/ThatchFuture  which highlights this and many other relevant thatching points. Wonderful to see that these issues are being promoted but, we need those in a position to do so to do something other than talk and write articles….. Historic England “engaging closely with the sector on these issues over recent years.” is all very well but we feel that everyone needs proper progress and issues need to be actually dealt. All of us voluntary unpaid enthusiasts need better support ……

Wednesday What’s This?  Do you Know?

Thatch Thursday.  Helping a lot of Estate Agents, buyer and sellers with Thatch related queries; Thatch Roof Inspection Reports, Fire Safety, Materials, Ridge Type, Insurance, Listed Thatch, Longevity, chimneys, Thatcher’s and more……

Monday Mentioning.  Points made in our recent article The Future for Thatch are starting to make the news. Well done all those for keeping things highlighted in the press e.g. training. Many things need to be addressed. https://bbc.in/4eXCGjn

Friday Flowers.  Thatch with hollyhocks for a change.  How tall are yours?  Have a wonderful weekend.  One of us is off to Canada for a break!!

Thatch Thursday.  Several people have reported lots of little black flies on / around their thatch. Probably cluster flies and apart from the nuisance, not to worry

First Friday Finial Fun. Thanks to Hallsworth Thatching for this unique pied piper and followers.  For more Finials please take a look at our gallery, always happy to receive more, you will be credited.  https://bit.ly/FinialFun

Monday Madness.  Well applied tarpaulins can keep you dry while waiting for maintenance.  Sadly we are seeing too many not fit for purpose.

Be Careful = Fire Risk = Everything is Dry!
“Carelessly discarded smoking materials” Attributed to a Leicestershire thatched pub’s beer garden fire. Luckily narrowly avoided a “disastrous outcome” due to prompt action by staff and the Fire Service.
