Raising the Roof Fundraising
Amongst the many enquiries we have received regarding grants etc, we were very interested to hear about a special venture of fundraising to rethatch a roof entitled “Raising the Roof”. What a great idea from enterprising owners of this Welsh farm holiday accommodation who have definitely thought outside the box. It is a Grade II Welsh vernacular farmhouse “last of it’s kind”.
Sadly, we don’t have a pot of money to assist but we do have the ability to help them by spreading the word of their clever idea called Raising the Roof.
Those supporting the fundraising to re-thatch will have the benefit of receiving a voucher for the equivalent amount towards a short holiday or break at the farm.
What a great idea.
The fundraising target is £25,000.
About the Raising the Roof Project
We are happy to provide a link to the press release on this raising the roof fundraising project so you can read more about it.
This includes background information on the project, why the original farmhouse is so important along with details on how you can pledge your money and receive your voucher.
This crowdfunder went live on Monday 1st April and they are hoping to complete before the winter. There is also some information about the recent and past history of Treberfedd Farm, as well as the sustainability and nature side of this organic farm.
Lack of Grants
People contact us regularly asking if there are any grants available to assist with rethatching works (on listed properties). There used to be but we do not know of any spare money for private residences now. The issues facing homeowners in maintaining their properties is well understood, especially in light of rising costs of materials and labour exacerbated by requirements for listed properties.
Recently we received this email which perhaps highlights the problem for some people. It is interesting that the writer says she can get grants for things she does not need, perhaps allocation of grants could be looked at further by those organisations issuing them?
We cannot fix but can highlight the issues.
And Finally
This Raising the Roof fundraising is clever, provides a solution and we applaud the ingenuity of Farmer Jack and his team.
We wish them the best of luck and will keep everyone posted of progress.
