EcoBuild 2016 – Thatch Advice Centre update

Ecobuild After for article March 2106

Huge thanks Natural Homes and all of our Natural Building friends for a great time at Ecobuild 2016.

Not only did we all have a stand where we could showcase our natural building information but we also all had the opportunity to show off our building techniques to the visitors, several times over the course of the 3 days.

Our other friends (in no particular order) Straw Works Ltd, Artizans of Wood, Strawbuild, Earth Building UK, Mike Wye and Associates and Hempcrete were very supportive and there was a great feeling of camaraderie.

An excellent group of people with skills, knowledge and expertise in building with materials which have been utilised over centuries and are still being used, showing their versatility and sustainability.

There were many fascinating stands at Ecobuild covering a huge range of innovative and interesting ‘build’ ideas. Our area was, without doubt, very ‘hands on’ and generated some great conversations with Surveyors, Architects, Carpenters, Homeowners, Self-builders, Developers and Students to name just a few.

The comments about thatch and fire were anticipated and interest in the Magma Firestop fire retardant spray was very apparent, so it was useful to be able to let people know about its many fire tests and applications.

Visitors asked a multitude of questions ranging from thatching materials to the versatility of thatch, its sustainability and use for the future in design. Who knew talking could be so tiring!!

Thank you to everyone who visited, participated and contacted us there and since, it is wonderful to have so much interest in thatch, to share our knowledge and help people understand it better.

Objective achieved, exceeded and we are looking forward to next year with more ideas and plans. Sorry Chris wasn’t in our picture, he only did 2 days as he had to get back to his thatching.

P.S. We plan to put up a page on our website with more information on Ecobuild 2016, so watch this space.
