DEFRA Consultation

If you are solid fuel burning and want to have to option to continue doing so, read on about the DEFRA Consultation.
This ends on 19th March, please share and tell everyone if they want their opportunity to make comment.
Our friends at the Guild of Master Chimney Sweeps (GOMCS) have told us about a public consultation from DEFRA on emissions from domestic fires – and if you are solid fuel burning (we are at Thatch HQ) take this opportunity to have your say.
The Guild has also produced a template letter to help everyone with understanding and responding.
From the Guild of Master Chimney Sweeps
Dear Solid Fuel User
The Government is running a Public Consultation on Emissions from wood burners / fires etc. (Solid Fuel Domestic Heating) closes 19th March. It’s important that everyone with a fire responds to the survey.
We’ve produced guidance on the questions that are being asked and things to consider when answering – see guidance and consultation.
There has been a lot of negative press about wood burning recently. The reality is very different – Air quality in the UK has never been better. Did you know there has been a 26% reduction in emissions from domestic burning 2018 – 2024. And the latest figures reveal a 7.4% reduction from 2023 – 2024. This is probably not what you’d seen in the media, but these are the official figures. Fact check emissions from domestic fires.
Despite all the good news there is still a lot of negative press. This is a rare opportunity to have your say and shape the future.
Thank you
It is important if you are solid fuel burning to respond to this Consultation – it closes on 19th March.
