         Common sense is required when dealing with thatched properties and fire safety.


Always remember to:

  • Check the electric wiring
  • Fit a liner and sweep the chimney regularly
  • Do not use spark arrestors
  • Fit smoke alarms and test regularly
  • Have fire extinguishers available both powder and water
  • Avoid having BBQs, bonfires and fireworks close to the property
  • Have an outside water tap with hose 
  • Know where your nearest fire hydrant is
  • Make sure the chimney height (including the pot) is a minimum of      1.8M above the ridge
  • Get specialist advice before fitting stoves.
