More Chimney Advice following Thatch Advice Centre Newsletter

As usual the newsletter has created a good amount of interest and we are writing this article further to a great response from Andrew Taylor, a Master Member of the Guild of Master chimney sweeps, from Peterborough.

Our photographs of lovely thatched properties are looked at and admired for different reasons but his comments on the following picture are very important, very useful and appreciated.  We have to share this with all of our thatch community to further increase awareness and understanding when it comes to chimneys.  It is also hoped that the homeowner may recognise this and rectify the situation.

Have a look at the picture below and then read Andrew’s excellent advice.

“This pic shows a stack virtually level with the thatch which in itself is rather dangerous, but not only that, I am fairly convinced from what I can see that the louvre pot has been somehow capped, leaving smoke emission only from the louvres which appear to be heavily sooting what remains of the stack and I suspect the thatch, this set up is a thatch fire waiting to happen”

We are all still learning and are happy to pass on that knowledge.

The Thatch Advice Centre will continue to put up great thatch pictures but are happy to receive relevant comments such as these to help us all in the fight against thatch fires and promoting good thatch advice.
