Firefighters tackle a thatch blaze at Romsey Road

Station Manager Mickey Smither continued

"The owner of the property had taken all necessary precautions to reduce the risk of fire to her house which included installing a hard wired fire alarm system and having a double lined chimney flue. She had  also recently attended one of our thatch information sessions held at the local fire station where she was given a Thatch Information Pack which includes practical advice about maintenance, preventative measures and what information can assist the fire service in the event of an incident" .

A fire investigation has been carried out and it was established that the cause of the fire was accidental and was as a result of sparks from a small fire in the garden of an adjacent property. A further re-inspection of the property will be carried out.
